Due to our on-going commitment to expanding our product portfolio which is central to accelerating our growth, we have created a new opportunity for a Scientist/Technical Lead to become part of our highly motivated New Product Development Team.

Reporting to the New Product Development Supervisor, this challenging role offers a unique opportunity to work as part of a customer focused NPD team as the high level Technical Lead on projects to successfully develop new enzyme products for our customers and markets.

You must have either a Masters or PhD in biology, chemistry or biochemistry along with extensive practical (laboratory) experience in one or more of the following subjects: molecular cloning, bioinformatics, fermentation (bacterial or yeast) and downstream processing.

You will have excellent communication, planning and organisational skills, have the capacity to analyse situations, diagnose problems and produce logical, practical and cost effective solutions. You will have a questioning approach to your work, the ability to work flexibly and co-operatively within the New Product Development Team. Strong project management experience would be a distinct advantage in this role.

Student Placement - Science (New Product Development)

Biocatalysts is a global biotechnology company producing speciality enzymes at commercial scales, offering both off-the-shelf enzyme products and a customised enzyme discovery, development and manufacturing service. From identifying an enzyme that exists as a concept on a database, through to producing large scale commercial quantities of stable enzymes suitable for global shipment.

We have a work placement opportunity for a student who will be part of our highly motivated New Product Development Team. You will be working on a specific company project to develop enzymes. This will be very much a ‘hands on’ placement and will involve working in the laboratories using various molecular and microbiology techniques. This will help you to develop knowledge of key steps in expression of enzymes including, but not limited to media preparation, plasmid preparation, transformation, expression trials and analysis. Furthermore, experiments will involve looking at multiple host organisms and potentially, enzyme production within pilot scale fermentation. By the end of the placement, you will have a detailed understanding of enzyme expression at laboratory and commercial scale.

You must have completed a minimum of two years’ as a University undergraduate studying biochemistry, biology, chemistry or a related discipline along with demonstrable general laboratory skills and an ability to produce accurate and reliable data.

This challenging role offers a unique opportunity to work as part of a customer focused team as the Specialist for the validation of current and new assays; analytical methods along with responsibility for assay and analytical troubleshooting that will deliver cost effective solutions.

You must have a degree in either biology or chemistry or similar along with extensive practical (laboratory) experience of development, validation and implementation of assays and analytical methods.

You will have excellent communication, planning and organisational skills, have the capacity to analyse situations, diagnose problems and produce logical, practical solutions. You will have a questioning approach to your work, the ability to work flexibly and co-operatively within the team. Having a MSc or PhD in a related subject, industrial and project management experience would be a distinct advantage in this role.

We are looking for a talented Technical Marketing Manager with solid commercial experience of working in the food technology industry and managing all marketing activities to include product launches, campaigns and exhibitions to drive the lead generation pipeline and develop new products resulting in business growth.

You must have a technical degree, CIM diploma or equivalent, experience of managing product lifecycles in a B2B environment and working with development teams to manage new product commercialisation processes.

Having an understanding of the technical and commercial aspect of enzymes and other applications to enable you to articulate the science in a way that promotes and sells our products and enzyme development services will be a distinct advantage.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will have experience of leading and managing two marketing executives to ensure their performance, development and learning are in line with company strategy. You will have excellent communication, planning and organisational skills, a ‘can do’ attitude and desire to get things done, along with the ability to think strategically whilst managing the day to day activities.
