Biocatalysts Ltd are excited to be part of this ground-breaking project.
OXIPRO is part of the European Union Horizon 2020 programme, its remit is to focus on developing a range of novel enzymes to produce environmentally friendly products ranging from detergents, textiles, sunscreens, and nutraceuticals.
Biocatalysts Ltd are part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers and stakeholders from 15 entities across Europe, who will be working together to exploit the valuable potential of oxidoreductase enzymes to replace traditional chemical processes in the production of consumer products thus reducing the environmental impact of these processes. Harnessing the power of these enzymes will also enable a reduction in processing costs in the production and formulation of consumer products and have the potential of converting waste streams into valuable products.
Biocatalysts’ primary role will be to use their bespoke software system, MetXtra™ to identify gene sequences with oxidoreductase potential and use their award-winning enzyme discovery, development, and manufacturing process to test, optimise and ultimately scale up the successful candidates.
Andy Ellis, Technical and Compliance Director at Biocatalysts Ltd said “It is a privilege to be part of this initiative. The OXIPRO project is a great opportunity for the Biotech industry to come together and make a meaningful contribution to moving towards a greener, more sustainable planet and using enzymes as the key enabler.”
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101000607.
