OXIPRO plans pivotal input to Norwegian Enzyme Conference

The OXIPRO Project – Developing oxidoreductases for environment-friendly products – is proud to announce its significant input at the Norwegian conference on enzymes, organized by the NCE Blue Legasea and Biotech North industry clusters. This key event is taking place from 15th – 16th November from 10.00 – 14.00 at Scandic Oslo Airport – Gardermoen.

NORCE Enzyme Conference 2021
OXIPRO Project Coordinator, Dr Gro Bjerga (NORCE) is part of the scientific committee for the conference, which addresses topics that are central to the OXIPRO project: enzyme discovery, application, regulation, and production.

OXIPRO and NORCE will be represented by Antonio Garcia-Moyano and Catherine Boccadoro. On November 15th, Antonio will be delivering a talk entitled ‘Bioprospecting of enzymes and new technological opportunities’ which focuses on enzyme biodiscoveries from uncultivable microbiomes. The session will describe how enzymes can improve technology processing and strengthen sustainability in the industry.

Following this, on November 16th, Catherine will contribute to discussions on enzyme production infrastructure and scaling in a session titled ‘The current status and potential for industrial enzyme production in Norway.’

About OXIPRO:
OXIPRO logo
OXIPRO is a European Union Horizon 2020 collaborative project focusing on enzyme discovery for environment-friendly consumer products with a total budget is 6M€ for a project duration of 48 months (1 June 2021 – 31 May 2025).

OXIPRO will broaden the range of industrial oxidoreductases by developing novel oxidative enzymes and coupled-enzyme systems for greener and more sustainable detergent, textile, cosmetic and nutraceutical products.

OXIPRO will speed-up the enzyme discovery and development phase, through the integration of computational workflows and biotechnological cutting-edge technologies, while also shortcutting downstream implementation and ensuring market uptake supported by the ecosystem intelligence generated along the project.

Intelligence from stakeholders is key in mapping consumer demands, industrial needs and existing ethical, technical, environmental, regulatory and economic barriers. Therefore, OXIPRO will invite research, policy, societal and industrial actors to co-create and interact with the consortium to maximize output and enable faster and systemic innovations.

OXIPRO aligns with key priorities of the EU Bioeconomy and European Green Deal strategies towards climate-neutrality and long-term competitiveness, by strengthening and scaling-up the biobased sectors and deploying local bioeconomies and ensuring food/nutrient security, while reducing usage of hazardous chemicals, increasing energy and resource efficiency, and ensuring less waste.

The consortium with 15 partner organizations is led by the NORCE Norwegian Research Centre (Norway). The consortium is well-balanced in terms of involvement of academic, RTOs, industrial and SME partners in biotechnology domains: Acondicionamiento Tarrasense Asociación (Spain), VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd (Finland), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (Spain), Calyxia (France), Gecco Biotech BV (The Netherlands), Zorluteks Textile (Turkey), Rolco (Greece), Novozymes AS (Denmark), Redinn (Italy), Biocatalysts Ltd (United Kingdom), Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (The Netherlands), SB Science Management (Germany), and CRB Benelux BV (Belgium).

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101000607.
