As the company name suggest, Biocatalysts is a manufacturer of enzymes but with a unique difference. Unlike other enzyme manufacturers that produce standard volume commodity enzymes, Biocatalysts philosophy is to work alongside customers to solve their specific process problems and to produce custom-made product tailored to our customers’ specific requirements. Biocatalysts led the way in the 1980s when it introduced this approach and many of our competitors have since tried to imitate parts of what we do.

In our experience, many people come at problems from the angle of the process that they have, not the actual problem that they are experiencing. We can apply the technology and experience gained in a wide variety of industries to solve a very wide range of food processing problems.

Biocatalysts uses a variety of enzyme solutions and our extensive technology and customer-focussed approach, combined with the expertise of our scientists means there are few problems that cannot be solved.

Dealing with both large blue-chip and small independent companies, Biocatalysts willingness to work on a one-to-one basis is highly valued. Most food processing problems require enzyme complexes where the ratios of the components are crucial to the efficacy of the whole enzyme product and our customer’s process. It is Biocatalysts unique ability to understand how the components of these complexes interact and maximise our products performance that give our customers enhanced financial benefits.

On-going R&D development
Our R&D programme is focused on the development of new enzymes and enzyme complexes identified to us by our customers. We have many allegiances with leading British Universities where most of our basic research into new enzymes is carried out. This allows us to focus our in-house scientists onto the needs of our customers, whilst keeping up to date with the latest developments in bioresearch.

Biocatalysts has been in operation for almost 20 years and in 2004 moved to their new purpose built offices, R&D facility and, manufacturing plant. In this period, Biocatalysts have won numerous business and industry awards including a Queens Awards.
