Biocatalysts Ltd has made the decision to postpone the official opening of its new state-of-the-art Enzyme Manufacturing Facility until later in the year. It has taken this step in the light of the ongoing development of the Covid-19 Coronavirus. The company believes this is the best course of action for the safety and wellbeing of its staff and visitors alike.
Rod Sears-Black Biocatalysts Ltd Managing Director said,” The decision was not taken lightly but with the rapidly changing coronavirus situation, we believe that this is the right decision to take. We are very proud of our new Enzyme Manufacturing Facility and will celebrate its completion at a future date”.
Biocatalysts Ltd new facility will continue with its implementation programme and the plant will be available for full production on schedule. The site comprises of an 11,000 sq ft extension to the existing building to house the new plant. At the core of this new manufacturing facility is a 10,000L fermenter and its supporting network of seed, feed and process vessels. This bespoke cutting-edge equipment and automated control systems ensure scale-up is reliable and robust.
The extension can run E. coli, Pichia, Bacillus and Yarrowia fermentations and has subsequent down-stream-processing. The new fermentation capacity increases Biocatalysts existing portfolio, extending their fermentation volumetric scales to 3L, 70L, 2 x 750L and 10,000L and the plant has been designed to accommodate a second 10,000L fermenter for future growth.
The whole process is controlled by state-of-the-art Siemens software to maximise capacity and enhance efficiencies, guaranteeing world class support and service.
