Biocatalysts is a global biotechnology company producing speciality enzymes at commercial scales, offering both off-the-shelf enzyme products and a customised enzyme discovery, development and manufacturing service. From identifying an enzyme that exists as a concept on a database, through to producing large scale commercial quantities of stable enzymes suitable for global shipment.
We have a work placement opportunity for a student who will be part of our highly motivated New Product Development Team. You will be working on a specific company project to develop enzymes. This will be very much a ‘hands on’ placement and will involve working in the laboratories using various molecular and microbiology techniques. This will help you to develop knowledge of key steps in expression of enzymes including, but not limited to media preparation, plasmid preparation, transformation, expression trials and analysis. Furthermore, experiments will involve looking at multiple host organisms and potentially, enzyme production within pilot scale fermentation. By the end of the placement, you will have a detailed understanding of enzyme expression at laboratory and commercial scale.
You must have completed a minimum of two years’ as a University undergraduate studying biochemistry, biology, chemistry or a related discipline along with demonstrable general laboratory skills and an ability to produce accurate and reliable data.
If you enjoy practical work along with an enthusiastic approach and willingness to learn, are conscientious, friendly and have the motivation to succeed, we would love to learn more about you.
Previous student placements have resulted in long term employment at Biocatalysts.
