Can I use enzymes for food processing in my country?
|
There is national legislation for the use of enzymes in Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Canada, France and Denmark. Customers in those countries should refer to the relevant approved lists. In the majority of other countries providing the enzyme is food-grade, safe and non-injurious to health there should be no issue with the use of enzymes. Wide ranging enzyme legislation (EU Regulation No. 1332/2008 on Food Enzymes) is currently being implemented in the EU and will lead to a positive approved list of enzymes that can be used for food processing applications.

In the EU providing the enzyme is used as a processing aid and performs no technological function in the final food, there is no requirement to declare the use or include enzymes on the final food label. Customers in other countries should refer to national legislation.
